5th Grade Music Homework Assignments
Describe your favorite song

In this discussion each student will make a journal entry describing the following things about your favorite song:

1. Title and artist

2. If your song has lyrics what are they about?

3. Name at least 4 instruments that you hear in your song.

4. Listen to your song very carefully and count how many different sections there are. Describe each section.

5. How did this come to be your favorite song?  Does it remind you of a particular person or place? When did you first hear this song?

Ostinato Assignment Due: Tues. March 2nd

Remember that an Ostinato is a short melodic or rhythmic phrase, usually played by a low instrument, that is repeated over and over. This repetition gives music it's form.  

1. Open your 12-bar Blues score

2. Using the notes of the  C Major chord create a 1 measure ostinato in the first measure of the bass cleff staff. 

3.  Use the exact rhythm and order of pitches for the 4-chord, F major and the 5-chord, G major.

4. Use your ostinato for all 12 measures being sure that you have the correct pitches for each of the chords. 

Scales and Chords HW Due Friday, Feb. 5th

 For this lesson we will learn how to make the C major scale and then explore the most basic way to construct chords out of scales. 

Assignment Directions:

1. Create a Noteflight score and name it C Major Scales and Chords
2. Using quarter notes, write the C Major Scale in measures 1 and 2. Label each note with the correct letter
3. Using half notes, construct chords in measures 3,4,5, & 6. Build each chord by "stacking" notes of the scale. Be sure to use EVERY OTHER NOTE!! Label each chord.

4. Using quarter notes and eighth notes create a 4 measure melody. Choose your notes by following these guidelines:

Measure 1: Notes from the C Major chord

Measure 2: Notes from the F Major chord

Measure 3: Notes from the G Major chord

Measure 4: Notes from the C major chord.
