Learning Contracts
Learning Contracts are designed to give students choice in the manner in which they demonstrate their knowledge of key events and concepts discussed in class. During each unit of study, students will be asked to complete a learning contract as a means of assessment. Students will choose what assignments to complete and how many to complete. The grade assigned will be based on how many of the assignments the students correctly complete. The assignments listed on the contract may be altered if a student wishes. These adjustments must be discussed with the teacher and agreed upon by both student and teacher before the assignment is begun.
We will discuss these choices and the students should mark on the contract what assignments they wish to complete. Students may earn extra points by completing extra assignments. Incomplete or incorrect assignments and unacceptable work will not receive any credit. Class time will be devoted to these on an occasional basis. Students should expect to need to spend the majority of their time working on these assignments at home. The due dates for all assignments are posted in the classroom at the beginning of the unit of study.
