Here's the list of Young Hoosier Book Award nominated books along with their reading level. Remember 4th graders... you've been assigned reading six of these books.

Owls in the Family

Fourth Graders begin their study of birds of prey by reading Farley Mowat's book: Owls in the Family.  Ask your child about the exploits of Wol and Weeps in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. 

Teacher Literary Recommendations

Interested in what teachers think would be great books (besides the wonderful Young Hoosier Nominees)? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Mr. Nelson-  The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
  • Mrs. Wildman- Blue Eyes Better by Ruth Wallace-Brodeur  or from last year's YHBA list : The Ghost of Cutler Creek by Cynthia DeFelice
