Writer's Workshop
Welcome to the Fourth Grade Writer's Workshop

Every once in a while we will be adding student work to this page for you to enjoy.  Please remember that in some cases the works will be "in progress" so they might be in need of some polishing.  Every student will have the opportunity to publish something before the end of the year.

My Summer by Nikita G.
Ouch, I yelled as Malika pinched me and said time to go. We were going to Selma Alabama. In Selma, Alabama we walked over the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Then we went to a museum in Selma. In the museum this lady showed us what it was like to be a slave. We went to other museums too. We also saw a play called ‘The Denied Mother.” Then we came back to Indianapolis. I went over to my friends Hannah’s house for a sleep-over. She invited Vanessa and Carly to her sleep-over. We did nails, and we danced to some music. After that we watched “Air Buddies.” Air Buddies was so good. The it was time to go to bed. When we woke up the next morning we smelled waffles, sausage and bacon. When we walked into the kitchen we saw that our noses were right. Soon after we ate our breakfast our moms came to pick us up. Well, this is the end.
What is Indian Creek? by Claire S.

This text was written to be used for a Geocaching "Travel Bug" which students will track online as it travels around the state.

Indian Creek is an interesting school. We learn different things everyday. Every grade has excellent field trips. We have and Outdoor Lab, celebrations, special parties, and special area classes. Special area classes are when go to gym, music, art, media center, and technology. In specials we learn how to be and stay healthy, play the recorder, make 3-D pictures, read aloud to younger kids, and learn how to make webs. The teachers have fun activities some days. In 4th grade we have pioneer week. We learn how they lived their lives back then. We learn how to churn cream into butter, milk a cow, and see and get in the wagon. We have ENTV in the mornings. ENTV is about what kids might be doing at school, and they announce kids and teachers birthdays. There is also a give-a-way. Our school also helps people like the Riley Children’s Hospital. Indian Creek is a spectacular school.

My Brother by Hannah C.
My brother’s name is Jackson. He is twelve years old and going to middle school. The one best thing about him is he has a thing called autism. It is a certain type of thing that you are born with and your brain gets messed up and you act different. Like if you give them a hard math question they will start freaking out if they kind of don’t know the answer. My brother sometimes gets made fun of because he acts different so I say, “Leave him alone.” Sometimes I wish I had a normal brother but then I remind myself that I am special. Sometimes I tell people the autistic kids are just as special as us. My brother is very caring, nice and loving. My brother tries really hard to fit in and he is a really smart guy. Sometimes when I get hurt he will come over and see if I’m okay. Sometimes he gets to be the center of attention. One time when my brother was three or four my brother had horse lessons and he screamed because he was scared of the horse. He doesn’t ride horses anymore.  My brother isn’t a sport kind of guy, we tried him out for swimming and gymnastics he didn’t really like them. The one thing my brother’s good at is reading. My brother loves to read about science. Jackson doesn’t understand very much, but he can learn a lot.
