Plants

While we learn about pioneer life we also begin our study of plants.  We are learning about the plants that grow in Indiana and how pioneers used them.  We are also learning about how plant and animal cells are different and how plants and animals adapt to their environment.

Southeastway Park Field Trip

We spent the day at Southeastway park learning how pioneers used plants.  While there we wrote our names in pokeberry juice, and tasted black walnuts and real maple sugar.  We also learned about the doctrine of signature, this was were people thoguht that if a plant looked like something, it would help cure problems dealing with that part of the body.  Stinging Nettle has hairs on it so people thought it would help with dandruff and hair loss- "ouch!"
