Standard 6: Data Analysis & Probability
Standard 6

As fifth graders, you will have an opportunity to work with data sets. You will collect, display, analyze, compare, & interpret data.

In addition, you'll use the results of probability experiments to predict future events.

MINI-LESSON: Why Bother?

Data is all around us: In newspapers, magazines, television news, commercials, sports, & the workplace. Students need to learn how to understand data.  In fifth grade, students develop the concepts of PROBABILITY & MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE, & RANGE  by collecting, displaying, analyzing, comparing, & interpreting data sets. They use the results of probability experiments to predict future events.

WHOLE-CLASS ACTIVITY: Data Analysis & Plotting (5.6.1, 5.6.2)

Everyone loves "M&M's"® Candies! A fun activity where the kids can eat their math! Activities include estimating, sorting, counting, graphing, plotting, fractions, percentage, and calculating mean, median, mode.
