In fifth grade, you will be using variables in simple expressions, then compute the value & plot & interpret the results. (Sounds hard, doesn't it?! Have no fear! It's easier than it sounds.)
You will also use 2-D coordinate grids to represent points & graph lines. (If you can play Battleship....you can do this!)
If you understand patterns, attributes, & the principle behind a balance beam, you're on your way to understanding how algebra works.
