It is rare for children in my class to achieve this level. I believe that children should experience a wide range of books before moving on to the next reading level. By rushing through the letters, students miss wonderful books that they otherwise might enjoy. I encourage my students to read broadly and deeply at the higher levels. Students may proceed quickly through the initial levels when they are first learning reading strategies and concepts. Once they have mastered reading on grade level, we spend even more time on comprehension, fluency, expression, inferencing, and informational texts. Your child will typically make 1-2 years growth in reading depending on the level he or she first began.
