Planning for Integration of Reading Instruction & Assessment
This four week workshop will explore the following question:
How might integration of reading instruction look in the secondary content area classroom?
The course strand will address this issue by means of readings, reflections, & discussion. The teacher will also be responsible for sharing a detailed plan for one of the following in his/her classroom:
1. building a classroom library,
2. collaborative unit with the media specialist,
3. development of a “book club” unit of study,
4. regular incorporation of reading workshop into a course of study, or
5. other related idea approved by the instructor.
ASSESSMENT
Participants will be assessed on the following:
1. Regular, high quality, participation & reflection on the discussion board.
2. Completion of authentic project connected to their own classrooms/schools.
(Such assignments will be practical assignments that require students to try reading strategies, reflect upon success of
those strategies, and plan for continuing integration of reading instruction in their classrooms/schools.)
3. Attendance at Face-to-Face session

During each of the next four weeks, there will be something for you to read, something to respond to in the discussion board, & something for you to do with your students.
